On Thursday May 25, International Africa Day, our friends from Africadelic continue the 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 in 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗵𝘂𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗶𝗻 with Africadelic Talks! They celebrate the work of visual artist 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁, who will show her short film 𝗟𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗶𝘀 (2022, 18'), a work of re-membrance which imagines a meeting between five women — Josephine Baker, Suzanne Césaire, Frida Kahlo, Paulette and Jeanne Nardal — in order to criticize and correct the invisibility of Black women at the First International Congress of Black Writers and Artists in Paris (1956) and in the Négritude movement in particular. This movie highlights Black women’s contribution to liberation and social consciousness — which led to movements such as Négritude and Pan-Africanism.

This special screening is followed by a conversation with 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 and philosopher 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗡𝗱𝗷𝗮𝗸𝗼, moderated by artist 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮. They will discuss Re-memory and the Négritude movement; the position of Black women, then and now. Finally, the speakers will discuss their experiences and dance towards freedom as Black women in Dutch society, and how this influences their activism, their work as well as their creative explorations.

NB: People with a ticket for the 'triple bill' concert of 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗮, 𝗕𝗮𝗯 𝗟'𝗕𝗹𝘂𝘇 and 𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗣𝗔 can also attend the talk with 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁.
